Regional art delivers!!!

On Monday, Susan Hutton  and I will pack her ute and be off to Brisbane for our exhibition at Graydon Gallery.
The other artists joining us are Jennifer McDuff  - painter,  John Olsen - metal sculpture,  Keith Stewart -  photography, Trevor Spohr - ceramics.  Susan combines painting and ceramics in her art practice.  I am primarily known for my installations and assemblages, but as you  probably know from reading my blog, I have spent the last couple of years mostly painting...... and I have been really enjoying it.

You are all welcome to visit us at Graydon Gallery in New Farm (See details in previous post.)  See you at the opening!!  'Breathing Space 2'' promoting excellence in regional art!!

Till soon!    C x

Talking about Graydon Gallery...

Talking about Graydon Gallery,  I am excited to report that I am going to be a part of a group exhibition there next February.  I have 5 other artists joining me in an exhibition titled 'Breathing Space'.
Those regional artists are Catherine McCue, Susan Hutton, Jennifer Mc Duff, John Olsen and Trevor Spohr.  There were several other artists I would like to have included and hopefully I can arrange more exhibitions in the future. Regional artists need to get their work out there!

Graydon Gallery is located in Newfarm and it has a very busy exhibition schedule each year.

We will be hoping to see you at our opening.  Date to be decided.  I will update information here on my blogsite...and on Facebook.  cx

WideBay/HighDesert

The WideBay/HighDesert project is well underway now that the blog is sorted.  We four Wide Bay artists seem to have things progressing.   Susan Hutton has been posting photos and also some of her sublime poetry as well, so look out for that.

Adrienne has had a few worries, but seems to be getting through the work now.

Trevor has been clearing his workspace, to be ready to start on a work shortly.

I seem to be producing at present, so I hope that will continue.

You can see what we are all up to at the following link....http://widebayhighdesert.wordpress.com

We have only met two of the four New Mexico artists, but we hope once their paperwork is done, that we will be able to catch up with them  all.

I have attached a digital work I produced this evening.    Till soon  c x

Wide Bay/High Desert exchange exhibition

It was an exciting day today as  the four artists selected by BRAG (Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery) came together at Dirty Linen today to discuss the upcoming exchange exhibition.

(Jess Marsellos enjoyed  our feast, as did the others.)

The artists selected are Susan Hutton (Cordalba),  Trevor Spohr (Maryborough), Adrienne Williams(Mt Perry), and myself...representing Bundaberg.

The exhibition called Wide Bay High/Desert is to be held in October. The four artists will each produce four artworks. Two of the works will be exhibited in Bundaberg and two will be exhibited in New Mexico at the time of the exhibition.

Themes will relate to the landscape, and/or cultural issues.

This is an exciting project that will bring our region under the lime light.  It will raise the international profile of the artists involved and promote BRAG as an innovative gallery, proactive in the promotion of its artists.

There have been some delays in the setting up of the Blog, so I am going to  drop in to see if I can assist, this week some time.

In the meantime, two of my exhibition posters were sold today and have gone to  a lovely home.  I also took some more photos of Susan for my Domestic Violence project, which is shaping up.

I almost forgot to tell you that Trevor and a friend passed on to me a rather lovely wedding dress for my mannequin, Audrey.   She's delighted!      See photo attached.

Talk art soon!  Cx

Visiting Susan

I had a couple of reasons to visit my artist friend, Susan Hutton today.   Firstly, I was picking up some  artworks on paper for display at Dirty Linen now that I am going to be opening the gallery every Sunday.

She had some lovely works I haven't seen before.  I also came home with three ceramic pieces of Susan's. They will all look wonderful in the gallery and will be interesting talking points.

I also had to take a portrait photo of Susan for an exhibition coming up at BRAG. The exhibition will feature photos of local  artists in their studios.  I have four portraits to take and have completed two already.

There are a number of very talented artists living and working in Bundaberg.  Their studios are bound to be unique  and interesting.  I will post some of my pictures after the exhibition starts.

Suburban Goddess collection

The time is fast approaching that I will have to pick up the Suburban Goddesses. Pine Rivers Art Gallery Gallery curator Tracey Walllace has been a dream to work with and I am sorry that she will not be  at the gallery next Monday when I pick up the works. She will be away on holidays.

Tracey, however is committed to do whatever she can to assist me to arrange a touring exhibition of the Goddesses.  This will be a very positive thing to come out of this exhibition. Other highlights have been meeting Brian, photographer extraordinare and Helen's generous family....and  Lesley. (A big thankyou!)

Unfortunately Susan Hutton's husband has had to undergo surgery this week and she will be unavailable to help me collect the works.  So I will have to look in to other options.  Hire a van or something like that.

That's what I have been doing since the start of this Art Merry-Go Round ride anyway, so all is good!

Thanks to all the wonderful folk from Pine Rivers  beautiful Art Gallery.  A superb venue!! Cheers!!
PS Thanks to Peter Stannard as well!

Setting up

It was a busy day yesterday. Susan Hutton and I left Cordalba early, in a ute full of 'Suburban Goddesses'.  We had a suprisingly good run through to the Pine Rivers Art Gallery in Strathpine - a Northern suburb of Brisbane. There was not a great deal of evidence of  the latest flooding in  Gympie, just  a lot of dull brown silt  masking the low lying grounds.  Council workers , with their gurneys sprayed the sludge away revealing hints of the green carpets below.

We couldn't stop to see if  the little mossy back tortoises were all right in their murky pond.

When we arrived at the gallery, we saw that half of the digital prints from the 'Broken Woman' series had been hung with magnets.  They looked quite impressive.

Susan's friend Lorraine came to help us set up the installation.  It only took us three hours.  The SG's look great in this beautiful gallery with it's white walls  and floor.

Gallery Curator Tracey Wallace is a very nice person to work with and has made this a very positive experience for me.

Susan and I celebrated a successful day with dinner at a local Indian restaraunt,  then travelled North to Eaton's Hill to stay with Susan's son whose  house is around the corner from mine. (Which is now  leased.)

I will post some pictures Friday!   Hope you can be at the opening!!   Friday March 2, 6pm.

Not on the road!!

Not on the road!!!  The Bruce  Highway was cut by floods in the Gympie area...a couple of hours south of here. ( I hope my little mossy back tortoises are okay. They live in the  ponds and lakes in Gympie, and I have been photographing them there lately. )

Susan and I may leave as late as Tuesday morning now, depending on the road reports.

I will have to email the curator at the Pine Rivers Art Gallery, to let her know what is happening.

I took some more photos of the Lifescape installation.  It will be dismantled and reassembled when I get home next week.

Well I hope my exhibition will be opening this Friday!!

Till soon.   c x

On the road

This weekend will be  spent preparing the Goddesses for their trip to Brisbane. I have them in the studio, where I am checking that they have all their components. There is a photo attached of the SG's  in my studio, viewed from across my latest installation...'Lifescape'.

Susan Hutton will come from her home in Cordalba, in the ute, and we will endeavour to squeeze 21 SG's in to  the tray.  On Monday we will be on the road.

Installation of the works will be on Tuesday.  We will measure out a diamond-shaped grid pattern on the floor and mark the appropriate points upon which each goddess will sit.  Photographs of the sculptures will be placed on each of these spots.    From these photographs, the assistants will be able to construct the works quite easily.  Each piece is stacked up, like a totem pole and there is no glueing or screwing  required.

I am really looking forward to the show.  The Pine Rivers Art Gallery is a beautiful artspace, and the SG's should look great there.  Hope to see you there.

Alone again

Sitting alone again in my empty house.....previously faithful laptop on my knees. The pool filter hums its way into the evening, lulling me into a state of optimism.  "I will not be green in the morning!" it seems to promise.  I  have heard that before!

I can't go home to Bundaberg until I have stabilized it.  I think I am getting closer.

All week I have been wanting to get to the printers to have a test print done for my exhibition next month at Pine Rivers Art Gallery.  I hope to get there next week. I am planning to have the digital prints enlarged to 100cm x 75cm  if there is enough detail. The works will be printed on a pvc material and hung with magnets.

The pvc 'posters' will display the digital images and these images will be available as limited edition prints  on archival paper, limited edition prints on canvas, or whatever is required.

It has been hard to choose the best 20 out of the over 200 images in the series.

The 25 or so Suburban Goddess sculptures will be packed in to Susan Hutton's ute once again for the journey from Bundaberg.  They will be installed very quickly once their floor plan has been marked out. They are not glued or screwed together,  but stacked up like totem poles.

I'm hoping that some of you Brisbanites from the Just Ideas exhibition may be able to come. It would be great to meet you.

Till soon.  Cx

Lunch at Cordalba

Susan, Catherine and I had a pink champagne lunch yesterday.  It was so good to catch up on Catherine who  has been snowed under with things other than art for the last few months. Susan and I are hoping she will be getting back into her art practice as she is such a talented printmaker.

She has a show booked at Gatakers next March.

Catherine and I recently bought some animation software. As soon as I get my next two shows on the road, we are going to knuckle down and teach the reluctant T-Rex how to walk!!!..instead of sliding along the floor on his ear!
