Clinton's portraits

I took a few photo portraits of Clinton yesterday, but I am not happy with them....I think i will have to reshoot on a grey background.  The black one is swallowing him up.    Still they are not bad.

Today I will put the finishing touches on a new slideshow I have done featuring Clinton's recent assemblage works.  This will be sent to his Youtube site.

Finishing touches will also go on my slide show for the Museums and Galleries Services Queensland State Conference, where I will be speaking in a couple of weeks. I am quite excited about the Conference.  It will be an adventure!  And I should meet some interesting people.

The passing of Margaret Olley

I met Margaret Olley at a red carpet retrospective of her work held at the Brisbane City Gallery. That was 15 years or more ago. When asked how she felt about all the fanfare, she said...'it's not about all of this ....is it?'

Jip

Brad and I called in on Jip. Brad was keen to take some video clips. The garden was full of flowers taped to the dormant trees.  Jip had dressed for  the occasion and was looking very smart.
He is really proud of his amazing house. I can't wait to see Brad's finished video.

Go to this link to read more about Jip.

I am trying to finalise my writing for the Regional Galleries conference in Mackay next month.  I will be speaking about the 'Collective Insites' exhibition.

It will be a little adventure for me.  I might drive and have a few stops on the way. Some of the folk from BRAG are going to be there.

Article for the Newsmail

I sent the Newsmail an article about the exhibition at gallery39 . Catherine and I put down some words yesterday, and Susan  took some pictures. Carol Seeger rang from Hervey Bay today to see how things were going.

We had a visit  yesterday by some ladies from Arts Qld  who were reviewing venues for the 'Artspoken' conference in October. They  loved the work in the gallery and 3 pieces were purchased.

I dropped in to see Clinton and find out what was happening about the show he is thinking of curating for my new revamped gallery..'Dirty Linen' when it opens in October. He has some interesting ideas. If you are an artist interested in drawing, contact me by email: christineturnerau@yahoo.com.au and I will forward your information to Clinton.

I really want my fellow artists to pursue the curating of their own shows.  While it is good to be part of  various curated  group  exhibitions, sometimes the random nature of such a variety of themes undermines our own voice.

As artists it  we owe it  to ourselves to say what is necessary.

Talk soon.  C x

I can hardly believe it, but I have just made 200 posts.  And stats say I have had 5,800 page views.  That is quite wonderful,  but you are a very quiet lot.  How about saying hello. I would love to hear from you.

PS  gallery39 has sold 23 artworks at last count!!!   Fantastic!!!

Icons and Angels

I have made hundreds of little icons and angels over the years. They certainly helped pay the bills when nothing else was. They financed my more important works . Schuberts on the gold Coast sold so many for me.

Mrs Schubert would ring me up and say...'Could we have some more angels...but only the blonde ones!'

Great day in the gallery

What a great day we had in the gallery.  There was a mass of artworks on display.   Our special visitors, Brad fom ABC Open and Jess from Creative Regions were present. Also Trudie (Exhibitions officer from BRAG) and her partner Leon. We had a feast at midday and a vigourous discussion about the state of the  arts in Bundaberg.  Honoured guests were Hilton and Phyllis. Close friends of Catherine and members of the Art Society for many years.

Fifteen works were sold including Clinton's Holy Grail(With Bunny!!)

There will be more opportunities for sales through the week and also next Sunday.

Well, it was a great start to the week. I will see if i can get some  pics for the Blog.

Thanks for your comments Pamela about Susan's work.
It is very special when you feel such a strong connection.
It is comforting to know we are sharing the journey. c xx

Attached are some icons Clinton  wanted to see.

Till soon xx

'Collective Insites'

Today Susan and I went to Maryborough  to dismantle my solo exhibition and replace it with Susan's.
It marks the end of a very busy few months.  I was really thrilled that Allison, Alexandria and my two beautiful grandaughters were also able to come and see the exhibition before it was dismantled. They were visiting me from Newcastle. Isabella and Charlotte helped me pack the big bags with the biscuit tins from the stove piece.

Yesterday Charlotte presented me with the amazing acrylic on canvas you see attached below.  She is a brilliant little artist.

There are a few surprises in store for gallery39.  All will be revealed shortly.

New video of selected 3d artworks

I'm posting a Youtube video of selected 3d artworks I have made from 1990 - 2011.  Just a small selection, but I will be adding to the video when I can. The artworks are in no particular order. If you have trouble with videos stopping and starting, press 'play', then 'pause'. The download will continue. Let it get well ahead and then press 'play' again.
