I have been getting back in to painting and really enjoying playing with the paint. I like the works to reveall themselves and 'suprise suprise', I have produced a couple of floral paintings. It has been good therapy for me.

Two of my paintings were sold and will go to feature in a beautiful newly renovated home, where they should look stunning. Thank you to SHAYHER PROPERTIES P/L for their generous sponsorship of artists and others in the community. Thanks specially to my son Ben, who transported the my large works.
And of course 'Vacant Assembly' for their vision and hands on approach, seeing that things get done.
An exciting day! New people to meet. Both Kirralee Robinson and Daniel Wilson work with wood, and have achieved such a high standard. They obviously have a deep appreciation of the beautiful timbers they choose to work with. I wonder what the timber reveals to each of the artists as they work. I wonder about bark, sap and grain. Especially grain which tells very interesting stories. It is wonderful to think that the beautiful pieces that Dan and Kirralee produce will be treasured for generations to come.
The exhibition launch, this Thursday will be a celebration and a recognition of our achievements.

I hope you can join us at THE GALLERY Brisbane Quarter cnr George and Adelaide Streets.
Our exhibition is in November at Graydon Gallery in Newfarm. We are going to have to float our artworks titled 'Breathing Space 3' across the river
to show them in Newfarm. (Just joking!!) I am sure the little ferry will carry us safely forward).
The artists are all from regional areas, Bundaberg, Maryborough, Woodgate. I am the only artist
from Brisbane, which makes it easy for me to continue to arrange and present our exhibition. More about our show as the weeks fly by.

Below is an image of my most recent 3D piece. Another Suburban Goddess. Till soon. cx

I can hardly believe that I have been in Brisbane for over a year now. In that time I have made quite a few art friends. They all have such different interests. This year I will be spending most of my time brushing up my photography skills.

I have set up my art studio to function as a photography studio also. I had the good fortune to find the fabulous Peacock chair in a local secondhand shop.

My beautiful neighbour Rachael has been a fantastic model. She is seen here dressed in couple of different wedding dresses from my collection. Cx
It is so great to be able to duck into The Edge whenever I want, and explore exhibitions as often as I like. It has always been so difficult from Bundaberg...it being a good four hour trip by car or train. Accommodation was also an issue.

What a treat it was to go to the APT, especially with my two granddaughters Isabella and Charlotte. They have a keen interest in art...and they are always very interested in the 'Kids APT', this time coming away with rolled paper necklaces and bracelets.

I was at the first APT. My favourite work was a series of stainless steel tables covered with piles of dying long stem roses. The roses were being watered via hospital drip systems, but this was not enough to stop them from dying. A personal work about love and its loss apparently.

It is interesting to look back over many years of exposure to all forms of art. Some works/exhibitions that will stay in my mind as special treasures are Vault, a sculpture that found its home in Melbourne. By Ron Robertson-Swann in 1978, some disparagingly referred to it as the Yellow Peril. It was quite controversial...people either loved it or hated it. I loved it with a passion.
Blue Poles by Jackson Pollock. Photographic images of the work do not do it justice. It is truly sublime. It is housed in Canberra when I saw it. The work was purchased amid a great deal of controversy also. It turned out to be a great investment.

Charles Blackman's retrospective, some fifteen or so years ago, was outstanding.

The Giotto frescos in St Francis Cathedral, Assissi in Italy, and
My week has been chaotic as usual. Helen and I attended an art exhibition in Manly. The show was in aid of our drought stricken farmers. They are doing it tough. It's heartbreaking hearing some of their stories. The art group that organised the event ran it as a silent aĆ¼ction.. All the artworks were donated by the artists.

Later that week we had the second meeting of the artbookclub. Helen had chosen David Hockney's 'Secret Knowledge' as our second book to read. I was fascinated. In all of my thirty plus years as an artist, l had never heard of the controversy surrounding the possible use of lenses by some of our best artists. In particular, some of the great masters.

David Hockney put forward a strong case that lenses were used in the creation of a number of these artworks. He noticed areas of some paintings had an 'out of focus' look and this is inconsistent with how we see. There were several other reasons too. You will have to read the beautiful book Hockney produced that explores this assertion.

Hockney did not feel that his revelations diminished his appreciation of the amazing masterpieces that were produced.

I love the beautiful tree paintings that he is producing in his later years and I admire his explorations of digital imagery.

If you have the chance to read the book, I am sure you too will find it fascinating .
I am really happy to be getting back to work after such a long time. I should be quite happy here at Wynnum West. Being so close to the Brisbane CBD (20 minutes by train) is such a bonus and provides me with so many options. Galleries and exhibitions and all manner of entertaining things to do. Now that I am back to my work, I feel I am home.
They are very interested in art, so it is quite easy to find projects for them. A friend had given them a drone which has been lots of fun for them. I am interested to import some of the files the drone creates, to see if I can incorporate them into my work somehow.

Here are a few photographs taken by the drone. With a little Photoshopping to brighten them, the photos should come up quite nicely.

I was invited to view the wonderful exhibition titled 'The Bowerbird and The Bride' at Old Government House. Forty-five stunning bridal gowns from the 1880s to the 1970s were on display. The gowns are part of a vast collection that is in the care of the award-winning costume designer Marion Boyce.
I had been patiently for 'The Writer's of Wynnum/Manly (WOW)' meeting which is held on the second Tuesday of the month at the Wynnum Library. The day had arrived at last! I found the group to be comprised of talented writers of all levels of ability under the guidance of a lovely woman called Heather, who was very supportive and kept us all focused.

At the writers group, I met a fellow artist called Linda who was having an exhibition with a friend in a cafe at West End. A couple of days later, Linda and I went to check out her interesting collages before heading up to the Museum to take in the wonderful 'The Egyptian Mummies' exhibition.

The mummies exhibition was very interesting and Linda and I were quite amazed by the condition of the mummies sarcophaguses which were beautifully decorated. The jewellery on display was quite magnificent also. The exhibition gave a great insight in to this ancient culture. Really worth a look!! cx
Its close to finished now. I have found time in my quiet evenings to dabble a bit with some videos. I will be reworking some of my older prints too. Cant wait to get started!!!
I am keen to meet some Brisbane artists. I will drop in to The Edge this week sometime to let the people there know I am here to stay and to find out what's happening around town.

I made the decision to shift to Brisbane a year or two...or three ago as I no longer have family in Bundaberg. It was hard to leave all my dear friends...and hard to say goodbye to over thirty years of memories. Hard emotionally as well as physically...packing up my house, my Gallery - Dirty Linen.

With my group show at Graydon Gallery finished in October, I started packing in earnest. I finally sold my property last month. I was in Melbourne when my son Ben found my new house in Wynnum
West...Ten minutes away from Ben and his family.

Liking the property very much, he suggested to me that it was the one we were looking for. He was right.

So I have been in my new home about two months now. Settling in...preparing for new adventures in art!
I would really like to thank Keith and Trevor for the work they did setting up and later dismantling the exhibition. They were brilliant!! Their enthusiasm and willingness to get the job done was truly wonderful. No task was ever too hard!

I arrived home very tired as I spent a good while speaking to realestate agents and viewing properties to see what the market is like in Brisbane at present. I hope to sell my home here in Bundaberg soon and find a home in Brisbane. It seems that it is a sellers market to me and houses close to Brisbane's CBD are selling rapidly.

I am so keen to take my work in a new direction this coming year. It's hard to be patient. Cx
The other artists joining us are Jennifer McDuff - painter, John Olsen - metal sculpture, Keith Stewart - photography, Trevor Spohr - ceramics. Susan combines painting and ceramics in her art practice. I am primarily known for my installations and assemblages, but as you probably know from reading my blog, I have spent the last couple of years mostly painting...... and I have been really enjoying it.
