Lifescape setup at Gatakers Artspace

More video projections

I recently finished a short video for Maryborough's Mary Poppins festival, that is coming up soon.  I kept the designs very simple.  I took  the photos of my best, most interesting umbrella.  It's quite large.  Once I collected  all the photos, I converted them to black and white and then I inverted them all.  I built up many layers  to achieve the results seen  here.  Simple designs work well for projections. 

I have a new projector and I'm not feeling confident about its ability to provide the results I want.  I might ring Dell tomorrow and see what they can advise. Perhaps I have missed some information in the manual.

I am working towards another evening of projections at a local college.  Tell you about
that next time.

Gatakers Artspace video bombing 2013

Gatakers Artspace held a Flood fundraiser  and this resulted in a fabulous evening of entertainment, which included video bombing by Brad Marsellos and me.

We  learnt quite a bit from this session...our first more public engagement. 

Fait accompli

Fait accompli...I am in my new accommodation which is quite a joy for me.  I can duck in to the gallery or storeroom as I desire, day or night.  This will be great for my productivity!!  

Today I have to pick up my cabinet from BRAG (Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery).  The show has been very popular by all accounts.

Last Friday I had discussions with an amazing girl, Jessica Wilson - Theatre Director- Producer-Manager-Writer and Consultant, based in Melbourne.

Jessica has delivered outstanding large productions nationally and internationally.

Later this year Jessica will be in the Maryborough community along with another talented girl, Theatre Director and performer, Jodee Mundy.  They will be making plans for a huge production in Maryborough in the next year or two.

The project will be largely delivered by the children of Maryborough!!!!  It will be amazing!

I have been invited, in the early stages to consult in regards to some of the artistic content that will be proposed.  It is going fo be a very special event and I am thrilled to be taking part in it.

New digital series

I have a new series of digital works on the way -working with images of Ellen. I will go to Brisbane soon to photograph her again and develop the work  further. In the meantime I have been finalising my works for the Gatakers solo in a couple of weeks. I will contact the gallery re details this week.

Patrick & Elizabeth

Susan and I went to Maryborough again  yesterday.  We took along our dear friend Beryl. I thought it would be a treat for her to meet Elizabeth and Patrick and I knew they would find Beryl  very interesting.  She  has  very broad knowledge of most things.  She is the very wise one in our girl's group.  We have her on a high pedestal.

Beryl and Elizabeth had a great time  discussing so many of the things Elizabeth and Patrick have acquired over the years.  Beryl, having used a copper (exactly the same as  the one I am using to develop an artwork), was able to provide first hand information about it.

Patrick tells me that he and Elizabeth learn about the objects they have acquired, mostly from the people who come to see the collection.

I would have loved to have heard all the stories  that passed between Elizbeth and Beryl, but I had work to do.

Patrick kindly helped me set up the mangle, washer and copper for photographing. He is such an pleasant and easy going person. So kind and helpful.  I hope to return to MavisBank soon, and when I do, I want to find out what Patrick is up to in the yard.

Most of the time he is a pair of legs sticking out from under a vintage car or truck of some kind!

He has worn very artistic and trendy holes in the knees of his jeans.

I managed to get a few shots that I can work with up in the laundry and I was able to adjust my plans for the copper.

We left shortly after midday after snapping a shot of Elizabeth and Patrick in front of their home.  Yes, MavisBank is somewhere there behind all that gorgeous greenery!!

Then a whirlwind trip to Susan's historical Society,  lunch at the pub. A plate of chips and a chardonnay.
Good fun and great company.

I spent the day today,  working on some digital images to go with the mangle. Elizabeth had responded enthusiastically to my request to photograph her panorama style laying on the floor.

Next time I go to MavisBank, I will try to get some  formal portraits of them.

Maryborough Collections Project

Susan Hutton and I have been selected to take part in a new project in Maryborough. The curator is Judy Barrass. She says:

‘The project approaches the museum as a place of relevance to contemporary culture and local community. The intention is to stimulate audience engagement and interest in museums through innovative approaches to interpreting and examining their collections.

Six artists will be asked to focus their attention on the historical collections in Maryborough. Each of the artists will be allocated a collection and asked to develop artworks for an exhibition to be held in Gatakers Artspace in May 2011. Artist interventions within museum spaces are also possible as part of the exhibition.

The artists will be expected to interact with the objects in the collections in creative ways, and to explore and invigorate the interface between the collection and the audience. They will be encouraged to question the assumptions and expectations interwoven into museum practice and the acquisition, ordering and display of objects in the museum context.’

This should be quite interesting. There will be a two day workshop in January leading into the project.

In the meantime, Susha and I had another photoshoot. We worked solidly for 5 hours or so, and achieved some great results.

Photo shoot

I went to Gatakers Artspace on Tuesday to take some quality photos  with my camera on a tripod.
I got some rather good results and I am about to post a few of the images. I have also sent out a couple of promotional packs.

I am feeling rather exhausted and yesterday I granted myself a day on the computer playing with images and not exerting myself too much.
This morning I tidied up the studio and in the afternoon I will open my big storage shed at the back and get it ready for the time that the goddesses return.
Trevor bought one of my small paintings on paper and I am hoping a few more will go over the course of the exhibition.

My first blog!

Hello World!

I am developing an art blog, so you can follow my journey as I prepare to exhibit my 50 'Suburban Goddess' sculptures at Gatakers Artspace in Maryborough, Queensland, Australia.

Over the next few weeks I will update you with past news about the creation of the sculptures. I will also tell you more about myself and my friends. But I will leave you for now as I have two large collages to work on. I am going to have a wonderful day!
