Somebody asked me the other day...

...what I had been up to. And I couldn't remember for a while because I am busy planning my future escapades. But it's coming back to me now....not in any particular order!!

Three photoshoots....one being of the beautiful Roana from BRAG.

Interview with two French documentary film makers. (More on this soon.)

Conducted a digital workshop for the BRIDGES lovely people. Helped hang and take down their 'Express Yourself' exhibition.

Attend opening of 'Living Change' touring show that I am part of after winning the Digital Art Award (that I blogged about last year.) Messed up the last line of my poem after my floor talk!

Delivered a carload of biscuit tins to BRAG for their wonderful 'Collectamania' exhibition. And pick up.

Didn't mess up my ABC interview with David Dowsett!

Packed and took over 1000 biscuit tins to install as a 5m sq 'Lifescape'on the floor of Gatakers Artspace in Maryborough.(Couldn't have done that without Susan and Peter Hutton).

Received the wonderful news from the State Library of Qld, that my 'Christine Turner's Art Blog' has been selected for inclusion in the PANDORA archive, Australia's web archive...allowing public access in perpetuity.

Assist in setting up opening of 'Soul Journey Art Gala' at my Dirty Linen Artspace. Press releases etc.

Prepare for upcoming Folio Art Market at Dirty Linen in a couple of weeks.

Meet with Creative Regions tomorrow for a significant Place Activation project I have been chosen to take part in.

Finish my large graphite work, one good large acrylic figure study, several digital images and commence a video for a possible projection in December.

And that is only October and November, and is  all I can remember. No wonder people say, 'Oh, we haven't seen you in a while.' cx

My friend, Susan Hutton and I setting up my Lifescape installation.  It took us about 4 hours to complete.  I will be taking photographs on Friday....the day of the opening.  Hope you can come.  cx

Lifescape

I have  over 1000 biscuit tins in about 30 cartons.  All ready for loading onto my friend Susan's trailer and ute next Monday.   We are on our way to Gatakers Artspace where I will create a floor installation....5sqm of biscuit tins!   I call the work 'Lifescape'.  I will try to record a stop motion video of the setting up process also.  

Collectamania

I have still been doing lots of drawing.  The full sheet of watercolour paper has been particularly  taxing.    Drawing will have to give way though over the next few months, as I have  three installations coming up.   First is Collectamania at BRAG opening next week. I will be showing Totem Poles - stacks of biscuit tins.

This will be followed by a large installation at Gatakers Artspace in Maryborough.  Showing five square metres of biscuit tins forming a large square on the floor.  My  'Lifescape' or 'Reliquarium'.

Then next year I hope to show in the Vault at BRAG, a waterfall made of wedding veils.

'Art + Food: Beyond the Still Life'

It was a long day today setting up my floor installation, 'Lifescape', at the superb Brenda May Gallery, in Waterloo, Sydney.

The work took 5 hours to complete and I think it looks beautiful in the wonderful space that was allocated for it.

The show opens tomorrow, with the official opening on this Saturday night. I'm really looking forward to meeting  the other artists in the 'Art + Food: Beyond the Still Life' exhibition.

Freight

I just had word from the Brenda May Gallery that my boxes of tins have arrived safely!!  This is a great relief!!




 There are about 13kgs of biscuit tins in each of 6 cartons.  Just over 300 tins in all.Total weight 78kg.

Adelaide

I spent the last two weeks looking after my two grandaughters, Isabella and Charlotte, while they were visiting Adelaide. They are such beautiful girls in every way. Smart, pretty, funny, caring, witty, loving!  There just aren't enough adjectives!  It was such a joy to spend time with them.

Today I drove to Hervey Bay to pick up my biscuit tins from my floor works that I called 'Citadels'.  The 'renew' exhibition was very well received apparently.  Unfortunately, I can't attend all these exhibition openings as they are just so far away.  Hervey Bay is an hour and a half  away, at least - one way.

My skeleton or part thereof, will be  sent from Adelaide tomorrow.  I carried some of the leg, hands and feet bones home in my 'carry on luggage' when I flew home the other day.  I  was pulled aside at Adelaide airport for a security bag check.  They had noticed the bones on their x-ray machine.  Once the security man checked what they were I was allowed to proceed!

My grandaughters don't seem to be concerned at all that their grandmother carries skeleton bones  around in her luggage!!  They are used to me collecting strange things!  They call the skeleton...Mr Deadibones (from Snugglepot and Cuddlepie).

Citadels

Yesterday I photographed the three circular 'Lifescapes' that will be taken to Hervey Bay for the 'renew' exhibition that comes up in May.

These works are difficult to photograph and I will have to try again,  however the curator Marj Sullivan,was very happy with the artworks, so all is fine.

The works are titled Citadel 1, 2 and 3.  Each piece displayed on a circular plastic tablecloth. Three very simple works playing with patterns and shapes.

Artist's talk

I had a great morning in the gallery, with  7 visitors  while I was there to do an artists talk. I was delighted that Helen's Mum, Dalveen, bought some of her family.   We had a great time chatting about all the sculptures and their components and why the sculptures are as they are.  (You may remember that Helen contacted me last year to pass on some biscuit tins for my collection.)

Lo and behold they came with two more bags of biscuit tins to add to the  collection, with some stunning older tins included.  I will show you some when I get them home from the gallery.  So kind!

I was totally overloaded today with a suitcase, laptop, tripod, and tote bag to carry on to the train to Bundaberg, so I  have had to store the tins till I pick up the works at the end of the exhibition. (Saturday, 31 March.)

As I showed the ladies around, there was some interesting speculation about the artwork pictured above.  The chair folds out to make a small table with chair. We have never seen anything like this before.  I call it 'The Widow's Seat'. One of the ladies suggested - a telephone table.   Maybe you can tell me what it is???

A friendly local photographer also came to see the works today.    I am such a novice as far as the photography side of things go...there is so much to learn.  He was very helpful providing me with lots of hints to improve my work. I was very grateful.

I had a long trip home on the Spirit of the Outback.   Home at last!!!  Hooray!  Have to do last years tax return before I do one more thing in the studio. I will endeavour to get that done this week.....starting tomorrow!

"Lifescape"

Dirty Linen awaits its artists booking in....so in these quiet times I can develop some installations, or whatever  works I fancy at the time.

This last couple of weeks I have been producing an installation of biscuit tins.  Actually, what you see here is really only about half of my collection.  I tried a couple  more complex arrangements, but the piece wouldn't work.  In the end I decided that simplicity was the answer.   I have been getting quite a lot of interest in this work.  Thankyou.
