Chilling out!

At last it's time to chill out a little.  All my major projects are finished for the year, so I can relax a bit before Xmas.

I wanted to tell you more about my time at The Edge.

I am so grateful to Flying Arts and The Edge for sponsoring the Digital Art Award  at the recent Qld Regional Art Awards.  My prize was a  fully funded two week residency at The Edge.

The Edge is part of the State Library of Qld, and it  allows the opportunity to experiment across the arts, technology, science  and enterprise.

You can reserve a bay window (overlooking the cityscape and Brisbane River) for solo or group work.  Book a mac to use specialist creative software and record, edit and mix music in Lab 3.

There are free beginners workshops in the basics of design, film animation, music recording and  more.   You can pay for one on-one tutoring by appointment also.

You can meet up with collaborators and a creative community. A range of meet-ups take place in the space for face-to-face networking or you can join them on Facebook and Twitter.

Daniel Flood and his staff do a great job and are very friendly and supportive.

During my stay I had tutoring to improve my key framing skills, and I  attended two workshops relating to Video  mapping.  I also made myself familiar with some of the best software on the market today.  I'm not yet up to learning  that software, but I will get there some day with the help of the folk of The Edge.

Since my return home, I have been trawling the net for more video mapping  information.

Attached is a video of a very basic mapping I have made with simple software on my iPad!!.    What next!!!???   This video looks to the rear of my studio, with 4 plinths close to the front.

Off to Brizvegas!!

I will be on an early flight to Brisbane tomorrow, to start my residency at The Edge on Monday.  It is going to be an exciting fortnight.

I have spent the day on the computer as always.   I am trying to  finalise  my video for the Bundaberg Centenary celebrations   which will occur a few days after my return from Brisbane.....cutting it fine!

The video is coming along quite nicely.  I have had to access the library archives for this project.  Much of the historical material has been damaged even before it has been recorded, which is a shame.

Anyway, I will have to make do. I will let you know how things go in Brisbane.

Talk art soon.  cx

Sorry

Sorry I have been neglecting you...I have had such a busy time with projects on and special family events. I have however managed to do a little painting, which has been therapeutic!   I won't be keeping that up for long....Video is really taking over!

But so much to learn.   Isn't it wonderful?!

I think I might buy a tripod with an extension  arm...I might try some stop animations.  Yeah!

The Foundry projections

Two pictures taken from my digital projection a week or two back.   It's hard to convey just how big this foundry building is.

It must be over 3 storeys high.

You can see a crescent moon above the building in the picture below.  It was a wonderfully successful projection.  I wish they all went that well.  cx  Even more pictures coming!

Bunderground

'Bunderground' happened last night!

Bunderground was an event incorporating art, music and video...the brainchild of Brad Marsellos.  The project was immediately embraced by Jess Marsellos and me, and was developed to show at my  Dirty Linen Artspace.

Bunderground had 3 aspects...music, art and video. It showcased works by young, emerging musicians and filmmakers together with works of art and video by myself and several other senior artists and photographers.  (One musician came from as far away as New York!!.)

It was an exciting night of music, art, digital projections and an amazing short film by Joe Saxby and Tyler Sajko...young Bundaberg filmmakers.

The depth of talent  of Bundaberg's young emerging creatives is quite remarkable.

Can't wait for Bunderground 2!! Cx

Video workshop

Last Friday we had a film night at BRAG about the history of video. Presented by Rhys and Tara from dLux Media Arts.  This was followed by a two day weekend workshop, which covered the basics of video production and some of the theory behind it.
This was a very stimulating workshop and we are all keen to  work with Tara and Rhys again.   Brad and I projected some images on Sunday evening.

I'm waiting for the delivery of my new digital projector!  Exciting!

Human Ventures

The Human Ventures team who are in Bundaberg  compiling the digital stories for AFLOAT (about the floods), showed Sam and I some  techniques in stop animation yesterday.

I recorded a voice over for a short video about roses....and flood waters.  You will see it soon on this blog. It was a very pleasant and  informative afternoon.

Bombing Sam

Brad and I had another productive night video bombing with pictures of our young friend Sam. She is off  to art college next year and she is sure to do very well. She is already a brilliant photographer and has been making interesting videos as well.  She made a very beautiful model for our video bombing.

We watched Sam's video under a nearly full moon.  What a treat!

Video Venus

This clip - 'Blue Venus'- has been a collaboration between myself  (art and animation),   Joe Saxby (music) and Brad Marsellos (music & editing).  Brad has taken two of my animatioms and 'mashed' them, as he calls it!!   This has resulted in a  much more interesting piece.  Video is becoming an important part of my art practice.  There is so much to learn.

'

Bad Dream is  Dead' is another of our first collaborations.

Artwork & animation :  Christine Turner
Music & vocals : Brad Marsellos
Editing : Brad Marsellos

Stream

As part of Bundaberg's Crush Festival, Brad Marsellos (Producer  ABC  Open Wide Bay) and I were invited to show some of our experimental videos.   Brad did all of the work really as I was tied up with the exhibition in Sydney.

We showed about an hour of videos, half of which were by young students from local schools.

I was so impressed by the videos  the students had produced.  Their works were sometimes witty, always insightful.  Each video had a message.  All in all, it was just so impressive.

Brad had developed  sound tracks provided by Joe Saxby (student, musician extraordinare) and another friend, to fit together with some video images I had  produced. The results are fantastic and the works have been a brilliant collaboration for all of  us.

Thanks Brad, Joe, James,Tyler,  Sam and  Julia. You people have a great future ahead of you.

Joe Saxby aka 'These Guy'

Joe Saxby is a very talented young singer/songwriter living here in Bundaberg. At least till next year when he hopes to go to Brisbane to study music.

Brad Marsellos, Producer of ABC Open Wide Bay has made a fabulous video of Joe singing his new song...'Sunburnt'.

I was able to able to  assist in a very small way.   I really enjoyed seeing how Brad approached and developed the finished product.

Check out Joe's guest blog for ABC Open at the following link:   http://open.abc.net.au/openregions/qld-wide-bay-71AY7Fz/posts/my-name-is-joe-50ay2mb

And I will embed the video on this page.  It's a great song Joe!!   c x

Stop motion video

Brad and I remade our 'stop motion' video of one of my 'Suburban Goddesses'. We had made it several weeks ago, but weren't happy with the quality of the video , it's resolutuion and so on.     We took about 200 frames over two and a half hours.  I feel certain that it will have been worth the effort of remaking it.

Brad will edit the video and we should have a finished article today, if we are lucky.  I will post the video when I receive it.

Website Revamp

I have changed my web homepage again....Have a look in: http://www.christineturner.com.au/

I removed the Youtube embedded videos as I couldn't seem to get them to run smoothly.  On the Recent Work page I have embedded a  slideshow with a few  images.  It seems to be working, but  I am aiming to speed it up a little.

You can still see the  Youtube videos on the Youtube site.  Type in Christine Turner or Chris Catkin  'Broken Woman',  or 'Suburban Goddess'.   I will embed these videos throughout my blog from time to time.

I sent some writing to Judy for Collective Insites'  blog and some writing for the catalogue.  She has given  interesting feedback that will help me to develop the writing even further.

Beryl, my dear friend has dropped in, so bye for now.
